Varicose veins
Varicose veins are at least 3-4mm wide, tortuous veins under the skin of the lower limbs and are visible when people stand upright but disappear when lying down or lifting the leg. Varicose veins are common and can be found in up to 30% of adults. Varicose veins are usually not dangerous, but they can cause problems if left untreated for a long time.
Varicose vein surgery
Varicose veins are common worldwide. The best way to get rid of varicose veins is with surgery. Varicose veins operations are performed by vascular surgeons who have specialized in their treatment. Great progress has been made in the treatment of varicose veins during the last years with the introduction of endovascular methods like laser therapy. Varicose veins procedures are performed under local anesthesia with some sedatives given during the operation.
Spider veins
Spider veins of the lower extremities are common and can be found to some extent in most adults. As a rule, they do not cause discomfort other than appearance. Spider veins are not dangerous and are not a sign of underlying vascular disease. They are commonly treated with injection into the spider veins, which causes the vessel wall to collapse.
